Love Is – Day 4

Kim Speaks Up - Love is...Day 4

Love is Day 4

Love is staring at your reflection in the mirror and admiring every blemish and scar. It is affirming that it does not define you but bears witness to your experience and growth throughout your life’s history. Love is stroking your wrinkles, love handles, stress marks, and burns and acknowledging that life has happened then appreciating that life has happened. Yes, life has happened. You have lived. You have matured. You have changed.

Love is admitting that you have been to the top of mountains, stumbled through valleys, fallen off the precipice, and even hidden in some caves but have found safety in the oasis of knowing that your life matters. Your body tells your story. It bears the commemoration of your past activity – one that you need not be ashamed of. Your scale and bra size feed superfluous tales of faulty identities and deities. Do not allow the numbers, the colors, the shapes, and the sizes that you once defined when you were little to define you now that you are older.

Look into the mirror and focus on your reflection. See what beauty truly looks like. It is the joy that exudes when you raise your hands and mouth in laughter. It is the eyes of hope as you raise your head to the sky. It is the smile that can change the mood of those in your midst. Your lips speak whatever is pure, excellent, and true. Love is accepting that you…yes, you are beautiful!

Kim Speaks Up - my portrait

You are beautifully made with such care. You were framed with the knowledge of your end even at your beginning. You were built to endure whatever you will encounter.

My dear…you are enough. Love is acknowledging, believing and appreciating that you are enough. Despite your loss, despite your gain…you are enough. You are clothed and fashioned in much regal splendor and glory. Adorned with grace and wisdom. Your purpose and your praise precede you.

Be vulnerable enough to wear your heart on your sleeve. The world needs more women who are bold enough to  wear their heart on their sleeves. It is not a sign of frailty but of freedom. It is one of the most ravishing pictures of beauty.

Kim Speaks Up...You are not for sale

Look up! Look into the mirror and see what God himself sees. Love what He sees. His thoughts concerning you are precious because you are precious. So, many see you as rough hard impermeable rock but Love sees you as a diamond built to stand in the midst of constant testing. Love longs for us not to lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

Do not let the condensation from your tears blind you from seeing who you really are.

Kim Speaks are diamonds

When one does not know the worth of your treasure, many may abuse it like trash while others view it as baggage. Treasure is always priceless to the owner yet worthless to the buyer if he/she does not know its worth. Do not nip, tuck, and augment the real you.

Love insists that when you come to the mirror, you reflect who you favor. You are a phenomenal woman.

  • Yet another beautiful post! I had emergency gallbladder removal surgery in 2012 and I struggled so hard after because all I saw were the ugly scars that were left behind. I felt damaged, tainted, and it took a good long while for me to realize that I was still beautiful and loved. Thank you for sharing these words of love… they truly are touching my soul.

  • “Your scale and bra size feed superfluous tales of faulty identities and deities. Do not allow the numbers, the colors, the shapes, and the sizes that you once defined when you were little to define you now that you are older.” Damn, I love that so much. Beautifully written and absolutely true. I suffered from an eating disorder for many long years and, since becoming a mother, have finally learned to appreciate my body for all that it has endured and overcome. Thank you so much for sharing this; there is such a need for more voices talking about loving and accepting your body.

BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Wow, this is so good and such a powerful reminder that, despite my imperfections, I am God’s creation. And, the three most instrumental words in a human’s vocabulary: I AM ENOUGH. Thank you so much for writing and sharing this post, I need to put it on the fridge and every surface of my home as a reminder. Blessings to you!!!!!

Can I just tell you that this is about the 5th post I’ve read related to this topic – one that I am struggling with? When the Creator speaks, He KNOWS how to get your attention! Thank you, this is so beautiful. And thanks, God, I hear You 🙂

  • Jessica

Love it! I really think we women/wives/moms NEED to read these type of posts. We are so inundated with perceived perfection and trying to be more that we forget that we really are enough…just the way He made us.

  • Beautiful & Inspiring! Thanks for sharing!

  • Love it. Great article. . engaging ….I can related to this topic.

  • Sharon Ulery Ruggieri

Aw…that made me a little teary eyed. Don’t we all forget to love ourselves as the gift God made us from time to time. *sniff*

  • Jen

I’m so thankful for the promise that He will complete my work-in-progress! One day I will reflect Him fully. And for today, I know He sees me just as you described. 🙂

  • Kim, I have truly enjoyed this series thus far and this post in particular! I appreciate the reminder to love myself more and to remember that I was made in His image! xx

  • Such a great uplifting message. Thank you for your great words.

  • Kim I am loving your message about love…I am challenging myself to be brave enough to wear my heart on my sleeve.

  • Love for me has always been this mythical thing. It held no bearing on whether I appreciated myself or my self worth. This has opened my mind up to view “love” from a different perspective.

  • SpaceshipsLaserBeams

I can’t love this post enough!! What a great message. Never sell yourself short.

  • Agata Pokutycka

Such an enjoyable post. Love should always start from within.

  • Lisa Rios

Pretty good write-up, I just love it. I agree very much that Love has to start within our-self first, which in-turn gives a better exposure on giving it outside. Thanks for inspiring.

  • Love this. Loving yourself is so important, until you love inwardly you can never really love outwardly with all your heart. I find that when I start to doubt myself that it impacts my friendships, relationship and family ties. When I love myself those relationships flourish too.

A life lived without scars and wrinkles isn’t a life fully lived 🙂

  • Cassandra Vincent

I appreciate your words of wisdom and healing! This love thing is so huge. Love truly covers a multitude!
