Let Love Lead You
‘If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.’ – 1 Corinthians 13: 1-3
Love is the sacrificial giving of oneself without expecting anything in return. It should be the chief motivator for your life’s smallest and greatest work. Never must it be eclipsed by your ego and emotions. Never must love be traded for the gifts of success of wealth. Never must it be sacrificed to get ahead.
- Your knowledge is great, but it won’t last
- Your skills are awe-inspiring, but it won’t last
- You may cover every news-feed and newspaper, but it won’t last
- The money and fame you hustle for won’t last
- Your career that others envy won’t last
- Your age won’t last
- Your beauty won’t last
When you daily stop to ask yourself why you do what you do
The miracles, the prophecies, the titles, the supernatural insights, and the speaking in heavenly languages all pale in comparison to love. They are of little value without love. They are simply theatrical antics with no goal in sight.
All these things are temporary and are designed to fade with each memory. Only the actions, the moments, the memories conceived and poured out of love will stand. Only they will remain. The only prerequisite to be fully used by God is to Love God honestly and earnestly.
“Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am- fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” – 1 Corinthians 13:8-13
Without love – I am nothing, I have nothing, I gain nothing.
